Did you ever stop to think about how much God loves ordinary life? Why make it unless you love it? It’s messy. He knew before He made it that He was going to have to do something to redeem it, but He made it anyway.
Those of us who walk the Narrow Way, what we get to do, is to bring the all-surpassing Glory that’s within us, this Glorious Jesus to every last square centimetre of creation.
We do this best by being exactly who He made us to be, exactly where He made us to be it...
How crazy!
To be able to trust that the God Who Made All Things, loves Ordinary Life. Loves all of life, all the ordinary every-day, all the amazing detail we live with.
Nothing is too small for Him to want to be completely involved in it with us. To be able to saturate it with Himself in a way which takes it from natural to super-natural.
When we connect with Him in this way things really begin to move.
It doesn’t matter where we live, what we do, what we want to do, our age, how much we own, our talents or our gifts. Being full of Jesus in a way that His Presence is both infectious and does all the work without us having to do or be anything other than ourselves is to be the Normal Christian Life.
…people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Acts 5:15 (NIV)
…so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them. Acts 19:12 (NIV)
Within us we have the same Jesus, the same Holy Spirit as Peter and Paul. Time does not limit God. Location does not limit God. ‘Calling’, ‘giftings’, ‘talents’, do not limit God.
When we decide things we find written in the Bible are not ‘for today’, or things we hear about in other places are not for here, we are deciding to tell God what He may and may not do in our life, in our fellowships, in our communities and nations. We are drawing lines around our relationship with Him.
We are saying “God, you may not come here.”
Why do we then wonder about the issues our families, communities and nations face?
Our challenge is to live in relationship with this Glorious Jesus in all our ordinary, everyday selves in a way that allows Him to Be All of Who He Is without restriction.
Surprisingly, this means we become more fully alive, whole, free, natural, relaxed and individual than we could ever imagine!
…where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. ….we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. 2 Corinthians 3:17, 4:7 (NIV)
Be fully with Him in the ordinary. Our extraordinary God loves the ordinary.
Ordinary is where He is seen in His Fullness, where His Glory is most fully revealed.
